ज्ञानपीठ विजेता गिरीश कर्नाड ने दुनिया को कहा अलविदा...

देश के जाने माने अभिनेता, फिल्म निर्देशक, नाटककार, लेखक और पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित गिरीश कर्नाड का सोमवार को बेंगुलरु में निधन हो गया. वह 81 वर्ष के थे.

मुंबई : ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार विजेता, बहुभाषी अभिनेता, थियेटर के प्रख्यात कलाकार और नाटककार गिरीश कर्नाड का सोमवार को यहां निधन हो गया. वह 81 साल के थे. रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, गिरीश लंबे समय से बीमार चल रहे थे. उनके शरीर के कई अंगों ने काम करना बंद कर दिया था. उन्हें सांस लेने में तकलीफ हो रही थी, जिसके चलते उन्हें अस्पताल में भी भर्ती कराया गया था.

गिरीश का जन्म 19 मई 1938 को महाराष्ट्र के माथेरान में हुआ था. उन्होंने 1958 में धारवाड़ स्थित कर्नाटक आर्ट कॉलेज से ग्रेजुएशन किया. आगे की पढ़ाई इंग्लैंड में पूरी की और फिर भारत लौट आए. उन्होंने चेन्नई में ऑक्सफोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी प्रेस में सात साल तक काम किया, लेकिन कुछ समय बाद इस्तीफा दे दिया. गिरीश यूनिवर्सिटी ऑफ शिकागो में प्रोफेसर भी रह चुके हैं. इसके बाद वे थियेटर के लिए काम करने लगे और पूरी तरह साहित्य और फिल्‍मों से जुड़ गए.

गिरीश कर्नाड की कन्नड़ और अंग्रेजी दोनों ही भाषाओं भाषाओं में अच्छी पकड़ थी. उनका पहला नाटक कन्नड़ में था, जिसका बाद में अंग्रेजी में अनुवाद किया गया. उनके नाटकों में ययाति, तुगलक, हयवदन, अंजु मल्लिगे, अग्निमतु माले, नागमंडल, अग्नि और बरखा काफी चर्चित हैं.

गिरीश ने 1970 में कन्नड़ फिल्म संस्कार से अभिनय की शुरुआत की थी. बॉलीवुड में उनकी पहली फिल्म 1974 में आई जादू का शंख थी. गिरीश ने बॉलीवुड फिल्म निशांत (1975), शिवाय और चॉक एन डस्टर में भी काम किया था. वह 1978 में रिलीज हुई फिल्म भूमिका के लिए राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार से नवाज़े जा चुके हैं. उन्हें 1998 में साहित्य के प्रतिष्ठित ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार से नवाजा जा चुका है. गिरीश कर्नाड कमर्शियल सिनेमा के साथ-साथ समानांतर सिनेमा में अपने बेहतरीन अभिनय के लिए जाने जाते हैं. गिरीश कर्नाड की प्रसिद्धि एक नाटककार के रूप में ज्यादा रही. उन्होंने वंशवृक्ष नामक कन्नड़ फिल्म से निर्देशन की दुनिया में कदम रखा था. इसके बाद इन्होंने कई कन्नड़ और हिंदी फिल्मों का निर्देशन किया.

गिरीश कर्नाड को 1972 में संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार, 1974 में पद्म श्री, 1992 में पद्म भूषण, 1992 में ही कन्नड़ साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार, 1994 में साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार, 1998 में ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार और 1998 में कालिदास सम्मान से सम्‍मानित किया जा चुका है. उन्हें 1978 में आई फिल्म भूमिका के लिए राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार भी मिल चुका है.
