Kanpur encounter: Last rites of martyrs performed with state honours

Final rites of the martyred cops of Kanpur encounter were held at their respective native districts with full state honours. Many top officials and politicians attended the occasion and paid their tribute. As many as 8 police personnel were killed in the attack and an FIR has been filed against 35 people including history-sheeter Vikas Dubey. So far 2 criminals out of 11 have been gunned down by the police who were involved in the firing. CM Adityanath has sought a report of the incident and announced an ex gratia of Rs 1 crore each to the kin of deceased, pension and government job.

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh): Last rites of the martyrs of Kanpur encounter, where eight police personnel died on the intervening night of July 2 and 3 in Kanpur, were performed at their native places with full state honours.

Bilhor Circle Officer Devendra Kumar Mishra, Shivrajpur police station officer Mahesh Chandra Yadav, Sub-inspector NebuLal of Shivrajpur Police station and Station Incharge Anup Kumar Singh of Mandhana Police station, were among the deceased.

Four constables, including Sultan Singh, Rahul, Bablu and Jitendra of Chaubeypur police station were also killed in the encounter.

Various political leaders have paid their tributes to the martyred police personnel and conveyed their heartfelt condolences, demanding strict action from Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government.

Last rites of Mahesh Yadav performed in Raibareli

The last rites of Mahesh Chandra Yadav who was a Shivrajpur police station officer were at Vanpurva village under Sarani police station limits at his home district on the banks of river Ganga with state honours. The last rites were performed by his elder son Vivek. Yadav is survived by his wife and three children.

Additional District Magistrate Ram Abhilash, ASP Nityanand Roy, CO Indrapal and SDM Jeetlal Saini along with Regional MLA BJP's Dhirendra Bahadur Singh and SP's district president Virendra Yadav were also present on the occasion.

Martyr Jitendra Singh received the last farewell in Mathura

The body of martyred constable Jitendra Singh of Chaubeypur police station reached at his ancestral village Barari in Mathura on Friday night.

Final rites of the martyr were performed by his brother Saurav on Saturday morning amid slogans of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Jitendra Singh Amar Rahe'.

Singh joined the state police force department in 2015. He is survived by his father Kripal Singh and a younger sister along with two brothers who are preparing for police.

Agra IG A Satish Ganesh also expressed his grief over the tragic demise of Singh and assured all possible assistance to his family.

People bid farewell to CO Devendra Kumar Mishra in Kanpur

The last rites of Circle Officer Devendra Kumar Mishra were performed by his daughter Vaishnavi at Bhairav Ghat in Kanpur in the presence of family members and top police officials.

Devendra Mishra hailed from Banda district under Girwa police station limits. He was a bright student in academics and was inspired by his father, who was a teacher. Locals of his village stated that he often used to visit the village to attend programmes.

About the case

The encounter took place when the police team was approaching to arrest Vikas Dubey, a history-sheeter facing over 60 criminal cases, in Dikru village under Chaubeypur police station.

As the police team was about to reach the hideout of the dreaded criminal, a hail of bullets was showered on them from a building rooftop, leaving Deputy SP Devendra Mishra, three sub-inspectors and four constables dead. Seven others, including a civilian, were injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, two criminals were also gunned down in the combing operation in the aftermath of the encounter. An FIR has also been filed against 35 people, including Vikas Dubey, at the Chaubeypur police station for murder and looting of weapons

A team of Uttar Pradesh police raided Vikas's brother Deep Prakash Dubey's house in Lucknow and took him into the custody. The police also took Deep's wife and daughter into the custody.

Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid floral tributes to the eight policemen at the police line.

"Government will provide an ex gratia of Rs 1 crore each to the kin of deceased, pension and government job," CM Yogi Adityanath stated. He also directed Director General of Police HC Awasthi to take strict action against criminals and sought a report of the incident.
