Chandigarh: After demanding to scrap Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) pacts and 300 units of free power, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu upped the ante by pitching for "new legislation in Punjab state assembly."

Taking to Twitter, Sidhu said, "Badal-signed PPAs are looting Punjab & legal options against them are limited due to their protection from Hon’ble Courts. Only way forward is “New Legislation in Punjab Vidhan Sabha” with retro-effect capping power purchase prices to make the anti-people agreements redundant." He also demanded for a white-paper on PPAs in the assembly in order to make Badals and others involved in the corrupt agreements accountable to people.

"A White-Paper on PPAs must be brought in Punjab Vidhan Sabha to make Badals & other authors of these corrupt agreements accountable to People ... I have been demanding this since 2017, But bureaucratic control of department corners People-elected Ministers to mere showpieces," he added.

Earlier this week, the cricketer-turned-politician had locked horns with Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh on the issue and had even made a series of suggestions on Twitter about handling the power crisis in the state. However, the CM had on Saturday said his government will soon announce a legal strategy to counter the "ill-conceived" power purchase agreements signed during the SAD-BJP rule which has put an "atrociously unnecessary" financial burden on the state.
