Kangra: Panic struck the people after some locals found a live hand grenade in Fatehpur of the Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh here on Sunday. The incident happened around 12:30 pm when the locals found the grenade in the bushes. The news spread like wildfire. The local people immediately informed the police about this and then the police, who reached the spot quickly, sealed the entire area so that no untoward incident would take place.
Along with this, the police have also informed the army in Pathankot about the hand grenade. After this, the army personnel from Pathankot and SP Nurpur Ashok Ratan reached the spot. The army personnel from Pathankot found that the grenade was a live one and they later defused it.
Local people demand an investigation
A local citizen said that when he was going to get fodder for his pets in the afternoon, he saw this grenade lying in the bushes. "I immediately informed the police about this and the police sealed the entire area. As soon as the news spread in the entire village, an atmosphere of fear prevailed in the entire village,' he said.
Fatehpur SDM Vishrut Bharti said, 'Information was received about the recovery of a suspicious round iron object in Dehri Kutkana Khad in Thana Rehan of Nurpur. Acting immediately on this information, the police team from Nurpur police station and Rehan reached the spot and took stock of the situation. During the investigation, it was found that the round object was a live grenade of HE 36 model, which had a pin attached, due to which a major accident could have happened at any time.' In this regard, the police have registered a case against an unknown person in Thana Rehan.
At the same time, the local people have demanded from the administration that it should be found out how this grenade could land there. Has it been thrown here deliberately by some mischievous elements or is there a conspiracy behind it, they sought to know.
It is worth mentioning that earlier also such bombs have been found in Fatehpur area of Kangra district, however no major incident has occurred at that time.
