India Meteorological Department said that intense spells of rainfall are likely to continue in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar during the next two days.

Continuous rainfall has turned Mumbai road into mini river which made the movement of traffic extremely tough.

Police officials along with the BMC workers were seen using pumps to remove water.

The rains, which have been intense in many parts of the city including Andheri, Kurla, Bandra, Charni Road, Santa Cruz, BKC and others, have resulted in causing inconvenience to the people.

"The pleasant weather with generally cloudy sky and irregular rain showers will continue to bash Mumbai for the next few days," Indian Meteorological Department predicted.

"The maximum and minimum temperature in the financial capital will hover around 24.8 degrees Celsius and 28.4 degrees Celsius," IMD added.

Several local train services, considered the lifeline of Mumbai, were cancelled or short-terminated as a temporary bamboo structure erected for civil work fell on an overhead wire near the Marine Lines station on the Western line, an official said.

Railway tracks were submerged between Sion railway station and Matunga railway station following heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra.

In view of the heavy rains in Palghar district of Maharashtra and a rail track suffering damage near Lonavala hill station in Pune, 17 long-distance trains of the Western Railway (WR) and more than 10 of the Central Railway (CR) were cancelled in the morning, the official said.

"Due to heavy winds, the material viz bamboos of ongoing construction work fell on Over Head Equipment at Marine Lines due to which trains have been stopped between Churchgate-Marine Lines. Restoration work is in full swing," the PRO of Western Railways said.

According to IMD, rains in the city are expected to get intense starting the night of July 3 wherein hefty showers will be seen as the weather system which formed in the Bay will move towards the West Coast giving heavy showers.

Also, high tide has been predicted with locals being warned not to venture anywhere close to the beaches.

Children were seen wading through water to go to school as streets in Dadar East were flooded due to heavy rainfall.

A number of potholes on the road posed problems for commuters exposing the poor quality of repair works done by the civic body.

Despite the heavy rainfall, Central Railway (CR) has put many efforts to ensure uninterrupted movement of trains.

  • Senior officers were deployed at nominated sites to monitor the rainfall and ensure that all required emergency attentions were provided.
  • Senior officers from Headquarters will be monitoring the ground situation through control.
