SC tells states to help child protection homes with online classes

The Supreme court directed the state governments to provide child protection homes with infrastructure and books for online classes within a month. District Child Protection Units have been directed to report on the progress made in infrastructure development.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today directed all the States to provide Rs 2000 as financial aid per month for education to those living in Children Protection Homes who are not able to go to school due to financial reasons.

The bench comprising of Justice L Nageswara Rao, Justice Heman Gupta and Justice Ajay Rastogi passed a slew of directions on suo moto matter pertaining to COVID-19 spread in Children Protection Homes.

The Court directed the States to provide infrastructure, books necessary for online classes within a month on the basis of recommendations made by the District Child Protection Units.

Students living in Children Protection Homes should be aided with teachers and extra classes so that children are in par with the portions taught and prepared for final exams scheduled for next year.

The Court ordered the District Child Protection Units to inform about the progress made in infrastructure and online classes every month and monitor the conditions of children restored to their parents or guardians. As per the Amicus Curie submission, out of 2,26,518 children in protections homes, 1,48,788 children were restored to their parents or guardians.
