Bundelkhand farmers threaten to step up stir

The Bundelkhand Kisan Union (BKU) supported farmers' demand for convening a special session of Parliament to repeal the Centre's three farm laws and warned the government of intensifying their stir.  

"The three laws passed by the Union government are anti-farmers. They will not help farmers in any way and will only force them to commit suicide," said BKU national president Vimal Kumar.

Hopeful of some conclusions in next meeting: Rakesh Tikait 

Rakesh Tikait, the national spokesperson of Indian Farmers Union, said, "Along with the withdrawal of these three laws, we have demanded from the government that the new Electricity Act should also be not brought.

He further said, "The provision of punishment and fine for burning stubble, which has been made through the new ordinance, should also be withdrawn.

Tikait termed today's meeting as positive and hoped that the next meeting would definitely yield some conclusions.

Harjinder Singh Tanda, Azaad Kisan Sangharsh Committee member, said that talks with the government made little progress.

"In the half time it seemed that today's meeting will yield no result, in the second half, it seemed that there is a pressure of farmers' agitation on the govt. Talks were held in a conducive atmosphere," he said.

He further said, "We are hopeful. The laws are wrong. In the next meeting, we will put pressure on the government. They will have to say that they will take back the laws. In my opinion, it will be finalised in the meeting day after tomorrow."

Govt will contemplate about seeing that APMC is further strengthened: Agriculture Minister

After almost seven hours of meeting, Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar said that the govt is open to consider and discuss issues raised by farmers.

He said, "The government will contemplate about seeing that APMC is further strengthened & its usage increases. New laws lay down provision for Pvt mandis outside the purview of APMC. So, we'll also contemplate about having an equal tax for Pvt as well as mandis under AMPC Act." 

He further said that the MSP will continue and the government will consider the demand for registration of traders.

The elderly farmers protesting at Nirankari Samagam Ground in Delhi's Burari on Thursday said they have no hopes from the meeting with the Centre scheduled later in the day to resolve their issues.

A delegation of farmers is scheduled to meet Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters in the wee hours of the eighth day of protest, 69-year-old Gyan Singh from Punjab said, "Earlier also several such meetings happened but no solutions came in our favour. We have no hopes from the meetings today. The government must think about our interest else we will stay here longer."

Balbinder Singh, 76, who also came from Punjab said that farmers will leave the national capital immediately if their demands are accepted by the Centre.

"Our decision completely depends on how the government is settling the issue. We'll stay here till our issues are resolved," Balbinder Singh.

"Our issues are not limited to the demand for minimum support price (MSP) but the entire bill," said Kalabjit Singh, the 70-year-old farmer from Mansa district of Punjab.

New Delhi: A delegation of farmers will meet Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday, said Spokesperson, Bharatiya Kisan Union while adding that all farmer organisations across the country should hit the streets now.  

"A delegation of farmers will meet Agriculture Minister tomorrow. If the government wants, it can resolve the issues. All farmer organisations across the country should hit the streets now," said Rakesh Tikait, Spokesperson, Bharatiya Kisan Union.  

"These issues will be resolved as and when the government takes decisions accordingly. Further discussions will be held after tomorrow's (Thursday) talks," he added.

Several farmers from different parts of the country like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are marching towards Delhi to join the protest against new farm laws.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that the government will hold another round of discussion with farmer leaders on Thursday in which both sides will present their views and it remains to be seen "to what extent issues can be resolved".  

The minister said that the farm laws are in the interest of farmers and the reforms have been done after a long wait and the government is ready to address their concerns.

The government had held talks with farmer representatives on Tuesday. Tomar had said after the meeting that it was "good" and the farmer unions have been urged to share specific issues related to farm Acts which will be discussed during the fourth round of meeting on December 3.

Delegation of farmers to meet Agriculture Minister today

New Delhi: A delegation of farmers will meet Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday, said Spokesperson, Bharatiya Kisan Union while adding that all farmer organisations across the country should hit the streets now.  

"A delegation of farmers will meet Agriculture Minister tomorrow. If the government wants, it can resolve the issues. All farmer organisations across the country should hit the streets now," said Rakesh Tikait, Spokesperson, Bharatiya Kisan Union.  

"These issues will be resolved as and when the government takes decisions accordingly. Further discussions will be held after tomorrow's (Thursday) talks," he added.

Several farmers from different parts of the country like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are marching towards Delhi to join the protest against new farm laws.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that the government will hold another round of discussion with farmer leaders on Thursday in which both sides will present their views and it remains to be seen "to what extent issues can be resolved".  

The minister said that the farm laws are in the interest of farmers and the reforms have been done after a long wait and the government is ready to address their concerns.

The government had held talks with farmer representatives on Tuesday. Tomar had said after the meeting that it was "good" and the farmer unions have been urged to share specific issues related to farm Acts which will be discussed during the fourth round of meeting on December 3.
