Panaji (Goa): Citing intelligence inputs about "possible terror threats" along the Western Coast, the North Goa district administration on Wednesday imposed section 144 for a period of two months.

According to an order issued by North Goa District Magistrate R. Menaka, the prohibitory order had also been issued in order to prevent the possibility of "anti-social elements" committing crimes in the state.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has been under criticism from the Opposition in the recent past, for indiscriminately imposing section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Prohibitory orders were issued in both districts ahead of the Supreme Court's decision on the Ramjanmabhoomi temple issued in mid-October, but the order continued to be in place for more than a month.
