Fire force rescued an old man in Idukki

Fire Force rescued an old man trapped in Muthirappuzha river in Kunchithanni, Idukki. 

Bison Valley resident Mannilpurayidam Babychan(70) who was trapped under Irupathekkar Bridge was rescued by the members of Munnar and Adimaly fire rescue units. 

The incident happened around 7 in the morning. The old man, who left home, had been sleeping on the floor of a pillar under the bridge for quite some time. As usual, he slept there but heavy rains resulted in the river to overflow. Shiju, a local resident saw this and informed the nearby locals and the fire rescue team. 

Immediately, the Munnar and Adimali fire rescue team reached the spot and started the rescue operation. They wrapped the old man in a net and dragged him to the top of the bridge and rescued him. He was shifted to Chithirapuram Community Healthcare Center.

More than 600 houses in Udupi's Nittur, Kodankur, Matada Bettu, Gundibailu, Bannanje, and Bylakere areas have submerged. NDRF teams carry out rescue operations in low lying areas of Udupi and move stranded people from flooded areas to safer locations.

Agricultural lands in Udupi's rural areas such as Udyavara, Kapu, Pangala, Manipura, Hiriyadka, Byndoor's Nada, and Perampalli have inundated by rains.  

Three boats which went to fishing in Malpe beach were trapped and a special force from Mangaloreis being called to protect them.

The district administration has instructed the authorities to open the porridge centers. Several volunteer organizations joined hands with the firefighters to rescue those who struck in the flood.

Udupi:  A total of 250 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel have been deployed in Karnataka's Udupi district on Sunday for rescue operation after heavy rainfall in the area resulted in a flood-like situation.

"Some of the villages in Udupi district have submerged and there is a flood situation due to heavy rain. The district administration brought my notice about the damages happened due to rain. Immediately, we have sent around 250 SDRF personnel for the rescue operation," State Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in a statement.

"As of now, 200 people have been relocated. NDRF will also reach the district anytime from now. I have instructed the district administration to take necessary measures. I have also spoken to Revenue Minister in this regard. I have also requested Defence Ministry to deploy a helicopter for the operation," the statement further reads.

This comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted moderate thunderstorms with lightning in several states across the country.

"Moderate thunderstorm with lightning very likely at isolated places over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Marathawada, North Interior Karnataka, Telangana, Rayalaseema, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during next 12 hours," the IMD tweeted.
