Ballia: Former minister and Samajwadi party leader Ghoora Ram died of coronavirus early Thursday morning at the King George's Medical University in Lucknow, his family said.
According to the SP leader's son Santosh Kumar, he was admitted to the hospital on on Tuesday after he complained of a cough and difficulty in breathing.
The family members said, "Ghoora Ram faced difficulty in breathing and he had complained of chest pain."
However, comorbidities added to his woes and he also suffered a cardiac arrest. He tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, Kumar said, adding that his condition deteriorated in the evening.

Ghoora Ram, confidant of BSP founder Kashi Ram, was elected from the Rasra (reserved) assembly seat in 1993, 2002 and 2007, and was also health minister in the Mayawati government.
Recently, he had joined the Samajwadi Party and was made a member of the national working committee.
At present, Uttar Pradesh has 14,628 active Covid-19 cases and the death toll is pegged at 1,012. A total of 25,743 patients have been cured and discharged till date.
Yogi government had re-imposed 'mini lockdown' in the state from July 10 to 13 to fight the rising number of COVID-19 cases in which only the sale of essential commodities was permitted. (With agency inputs)
