New Delhi: After pushing the entire world into the grip of pandemic and doing roaring business, China is now trying hard to prevent India from becoming self-reliant in medicines. China has started exporting to India raw material used in the medicines at a low price.

Wuhan from where coronavirus had originated is once again buzzing with activities while India and other countries, including America, is still under the grip of the pandemic.

There is anger for China throughout the world. Multinational companies and large countries are attempting to reduce their dependence on China. Hence, China is trying to stop buyers from turning towards other countries.

China has started supplying to India Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and intermediates essential for life saving drugs from Wuhan and Jiangsu. Ankleshwar is the country’s biggest cluster of pharmaceutical and chemicals industry where there are over 1,000 manufacturing units which cannot do without raw materials from China.

China exports to India Rs 42.4 billion worth of raw materials for the pharmaceuticals which account for 70 per cent of the total demand. India has been importing 354 APIs and intermediates of medicines from China in the last three months which shows how India is at the mercy of China.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the central government and the Indian industries have suddenly woken up and have announced special incentives and easy licensing policy in an effort to make the pharmaceutical sector self-reliant.

Talking to ETV Bharat, importer from China and spokesperson of Ankleshwar industries association Pravin Taraiya said after a gap during the coronavirus crisis Wuhan has started supplying chemicals with great speed. India imports 70 per cent of its API and intermediates from China which has now been started manoeuvring to stop India from becoming self-reliant. China has been dominating India because of its low priced products.

India was compelled to stop the manufacturing of certain products after China started exporting the same products at low prices. China has further lowered the prices of its products to prevent India from becoming self-reliant so that Indian entrepreneurs do not dare to venture into manufacturing.

According to the president of Ankleshwar Industries Association Mahesh Patel, China had increased the prices of its products during the coronavirus crisis but now it has lowered the prices.

After applying the brake on the entire world, China is now trying to dominate the world market. When industries are trying to move away from China and looking at other countries, to prove them wrong and push these industries into losses, China has adopted the strategy of exporting its products at much lower prices.
