Belagavi (Karnataka): Three youths sustained injuries after being allegedly stabbed by a group of men during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Karnataka's Belagavi. Three accused have been arrested in this connection, police said.
City Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang said that the incident resulted from an old enmity between two groups. Three were injured during a fight that had broke out between the rival groups, Marbaniang added. A case has been registered in Khadebazar police station.
The incident took place at Chennamma Circle in the city on Tuesday midnight. The injured, identified as Darshan Patil, Satish Pujari and Praveen Gundiagola, have been admitted to Belagavi District Hospital for treatment. On information, a team from the local police station visited the hospital and took stock of their health condition.
According to police, a scuffle ensued between two groups during the procession. Police intervened and separated the groups after which, all were sent home. However, three persons got injured in the fight.
The City Police Commissioner said to the media, "The incident took place in Chennamma Circle but no stabbing was reported. During the Ganesh immersion procession, a fight broke out between two groups. Policemen intervened and dispersed the crowd. According to the information we received, the fight resulted from an old enmity between the two groups. Three persons got minor injuries and were taken to hospital."
Police have arrested three of the five accused in this case. The accused have been identified as Kuri, Mahesh and Vijaya, the City Police Commissioner said.
