SHOTLIST: Copperhill Mountain Lodge, Are, Sweden. 7th February, 2019.
1. 00:00 Aksel Lund Svindal's talking to media at Norway team hotel
2. 00:05 SOUNDBITE (English): Aksel Lund Svindal, 2018 Olympic men's downhill champion:
(about whether he thinks he is a medal prospect)
"Yeah, I do. I mean we saw it today too, the guys that have been fast in the downhill this year, a lot of them were fast again today. We had some guys that made some mistakes but you know we got (Dominik) Paris up there, (Vincent) Kriechmayr will be up there…you had most of the fast guys in the mix today and I think that's where it's going to be for the rest (for the race). It's going to be tight because there is a good chance we can go for the top (not have the race shortened because of bad weather) and then it's going to be a tight race."
3. 00:40 SOUNDBITE (English): Aksel Lund Svindal, 2018 Olympic men's downhill champion:
(about whether, like Lindsey Vonn, he will need to race fast cars in order to get a fast speed adrenaline fix after retiring)
"Lindsey is a little crazier than I am, I'm more of a calculated guy."
(Q: She says she need a bigger sports car for her fix....)
"I think it's fun too but I don't mind more casual things. Of course I can do something like that once in a while but I don't need it I think. But this is me talking as a professional athlete. Ask me in maybe a year (though), and maybe I'll be like, 'it's driving me crazy!'"

5. 01:16 SOUNDBITE (English); Aksel Lund Svindal, 2018 Olympic men's downhill champion:
(about whether we can expect tears from him on his final day of ski racing)
"Tears? Let's put it this way. If they come that's a very strong signal, because I don't know if they are shut but they are not very well used. They don't come that often. My tears channels are fairly shut."
(Q: If they start, will you let it flow?)
"If it starts I will let it flow! You watch for that."

7. 01:50 SOUNDBITE (English): Aksel Lund Svindal, 2018 Olympic men's downhill champion:
(about FIS President Gian Franco Kasper apologising after a story in a Swiss newspaper quoted him as saying he preferred countries with "dictatorships" to host major sports competitions, because it was easier to organise events in such nations)
"Yeah, that makes a lot of sense at least, because the comments did not make sense, so the apology does make sense."
(Q: In the apology Kaspar says he did no means the words "literally," what do you think?)
"I don't know what context they were said in so I would have to see the live audio tape of when he said then."
(Q: He said it would be smart to only do championships with dictators because it means no discussion with the green parties (environmental political parties))
"With his experience he should know better than to say that. There is a lot of issue in this world that are more important that sports and an issue like dictatorship is more important than where the Winter Olympics are being held. So to put those two in the same context is exactly the reason why Austria, Norway, Germany, everyone says 'Olympics? No, we don't really want them.' So he's not helping the situation."
(Q: Some people say it is bad leadership from Kaspar. When we saw you last you said you didn't want to be in politics.)
"He proved my point!"
(Q: Some might say FIS needs someone like you (as President)...)
"No, that's a different story, I just…no, that's a different story."

STORYLINE:
Aksel Lund Svindal has admitted he struggles to cry, but says if tears come at the end of his final ever race, he will be happy to "let it flow."
The Olympic men's downhill champion was speaking on Thursday at his final Norway team media event before participating in the last race of his career on Saturday - the men's downhill at the 2019 Alpine World Ski Championships in Are, Sweden.
The 36-year-old said he expects an emotional post-competition comedown, but it won't be like that of the also retiring Lindsey Vonn, who said she will need to drive fast cars to get her fast speed fix.
Svindal also welcomed a public apology by the FIS President on Thursday.
On Wednesday, a story in a Swiss newspaper quoted Gian Franco Kasper as saying he preferred countries with "dictatorships" to host major sports competitions, because it was easier to organise events in such nations.
