বেবি ফেডের কাছে US ওপেনের কোয়ার্টার ফাইনালে হেরে গেলেন ফেডেরার । পাঁচ সেটের হাড্ডাহাড্ডি লড়াইয়ে ফেডেরারের কাছে নিজের শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব প্রমাণ করেলেন বেবি ফেড, থুড়ি গ্রিগর দিমিত্রভ ।

নিউইয়র্ক, 4 সেপ্টেম্বর : US ওপেনের কোয়ার্টার ফাইনালে হেরে গেলেন রজার ফেডেরার । বুলগেরিয়ান তারকা গ্রিগর দিমিত্রভের কাছে 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6, 2-6 সেটে হারেন তিনি ।
কেরিয়ারের শুরুর পর থেকে ফেডেরার সঙ্গে তুলনা শুরু হয় গ্রিগর দিমিত্রভের । কারণ, তাঁর ফোরহ্যান্ড, ব্যাকহ্যান্ড বা সার্ভ দেখে মনে হত ফেডেরার স্বয়ং কোর্টে নেমেছেন । খেলার ধরনে এই মিল থাকার কারণে দিমিত্রভকে "বেবি ফেড" বা খুদে ফেডেরার ডাকা হয় । যদিও দিমিত্রভের ডাকনামটা পছন্দ ছিল না, নিজে বারবার আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন তাঁকে এই নামে যেন ডাকা না হয় । সেই বেবি ফেডের কাছেই US ওপেনের কোয়ার্টার ফাইনালে হেরে গেলেন ফেডেরার । পাঁচ সেটের হাড্ডাহাড্ডি লড়াইয়ে ফেডেরারের কাছে নিজের শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব প্রমাণ করেলেন বেবি ফেড, থুড়ি গ্রিগর দিমিত্রভ ।
এর আগে ফেডেরারের বিপক্ষে সাতবার খেলে একবারও জিততে পারেননি দিমিত্রভ । সেই সাত ম্যাচের 18টি সেটের মধ্যে মাত্র দুটিতে জিততে পেরেছিলেন তিনি । চলতি টুর্নামেন্টে দুর্দান্ত ফর্মে ছিলেন ফেডেরার । স্বাভাবিকভাবেই গতকাল কোয়ার্টার ফাইনালে ফেভারিট ছিলেন ফেডেরার ।
ম্যাচটি ফেডেরার শুরুও করেন নিজের নামের উপর সুবিচার করে । প্রথম সেট 6-3 গেমে অনায়াসে জেতেন । কিন্তু দ্বিতীয় সেটে 6-4 গেমে জিতে নিয়ে ম্যাচে সমতা ফেরান দিমিত্রভ । পরের সেট আবারও 6-3 গেমে জেতেন ফেডেরার । চতুর্থ সেটে 6-4 গেমে জিতে ফের সমতা ফেরান দিমিত্রভ । শেষ সেটে নিজের ফর্ম ধরে রাখতে পারেননি ফেডেরার । ফেডেরারকে হারাতে পারবেন, ততক্ষণে এই আত্মবিশ্বাসটা এসে গিয়েছিল দিমিত্রভের মনে । আর সেই আত্মবিশ্বাসের কাছে পাত্তাই পাননি ফেডেরার । পঞ্চম সেটটা 6-2 গেমে হেরে কোয়ার্টার ফাইনাল থেকে বিদায় নেন 20টি গ্র্যন্ডস্ল্যাম জয়ী ।
এদিকে মেয়েদের সিঙ্গলসে সহজ জয় পেয়েছেন সেরেনা উইলিয়ামস । 37 বছর বয়সি অ্যামেরিকান তারকা মাত্র 44 মিনিটে চিনের ওয়াং কিয়াংকে বিধ্বস্ত করেন 6-1, 6-0 গেমে । 24তম গ্র্যান্ডস্ল্যাম শিরোপার খোঁজে থাকা সেরেনা শেষ চারে ইউক্রেনের এলিনা সভিতোলিনার বিপক্ষে লড়বেন । ব্রিটেনের ইয়োহানা কন্তাকে হারিয়ে সেমিফাইনালে উঠেছেন সভিতোলিনা ।

"Me, too. Well, everything was different. I mean, different circumstances, different court, different time of the tournament. I mean, I can say so many things that are different. I was more present, to be honest. I was more of myself throughout every point, every game that I played. In the past, it's always been very hard to play against him. He always came out pretty fiery, make an early break. Actually the same thing happened today. It's been a long time that I've been on that court. For sure, I had a little bit of nerves, trying to readjust. I felt very comfortable from the first point, despite the fact that I was missing a little bit here and there. I had a few opportunities. I kept on believing again in the work, the rehab I had to put behind my shoulder, the exercise, the practice, fixing up the racquet a little bit. There were so many things I had to adjust in such a small but big period of time. Next thing you know, you're almost end of the year, you have a result like that. It's pretty special to me."

"If I think I'm going to get more opportunities? I don't have the crystal ball. Do you? Exactly. So we never know. I hope so, of course. I think still it's been a positive season. Disappointing now, but I'll get back up, I'll be all right."

STORYLINE:
Reactions from Roger Federer and Grigor Dimitrov after the third seed was beaten 3-6 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-2 by the 78th-ranked Bulgarian in the U.S. Open quarterfinals before a stunned crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The 38-year-old Federer took a rare-for-him medical timeout after the fourth set, leaving the court with a trainer. It was not immediately clear what might have been wrong with Federer, although he did appear to be flexing his back after some points.
When play resumed after a break of nearly 10 minutes, Federer's form never picked up. He finished with 61 unforced errors, 33 on the forehand side.
Federer had been 7-0 against Dimitrov, taking 16 of their previous 18 sets.
Federer would have been the oldest Grand Slam semifinalist since Jimmy Connors was 39 at Flushing Meadows in 1991. He also was trying to add to his totals of five U.S. Open championships and 20 major trophies in all.
Instead, Dimitrov advanced to his third major semifinal, first in New York. He will face fifth seed Daniil Medvedev on Friday.
