আজ সন্ধ্যায় শেষ নিশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন প্রাক্তন মুখ্য নির্বাচন কমিশনার টি এন সেশন ।

চেন্নাই, 10 নভেম্বর : আজ সন্ধ্যায় চেন্নাইয়ে নিজের বাসভবনে শেষ নিশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন প্রাক্তন মুখ্য নির্বাচন কমিশনার টি এন সেশন । তাঁর বয়স হয়েছিল 87 বছর ।

তিনি 1990 থেকে 1996 সাল পর্যন্ত দেশের 10তম মুখ্য নির্বাচন কমিশনার হিসেবে দায়িত্ব সামলেছেন । তাঁর আমলেই দেশে চালু হয়েছিল সচিত্র ভোটার পরিচয়পত্র । এছাড়া, নির্বাচনী ব্যবস্থায় একাধিক উল্লেখযোগ্য সংস্কার করেছিলেন তিনি ।

1989 সালে তিনি 18তম ভারতের ক্যাবিনেট সচিব হিসেবে নিযুক্ত হন ৷ নির্বাচন কমিশনার হিসেবে দক্ষতার সঙ্গে কাজ করার জন্য টি এন সেশন 1996 সালে রামন ম্যাগসেসাই অ্যাওয়ার্ড পেয়েছিলেন । দেশের নির্বাচনে জালিয়াতি বন্ধ করতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করেছিলেন সেশন ৷

টুইটারে সেশনের মৃত্যুর খবর জানান প্রাক্তন মুখ্য নির্বাচন কমিশনার ডঃ এস ওয়াই কুরেশি ৷ তিনি লেখেন, 'টি এন সেশন কিছুক্ষণ আগে মারা গেছেন ৷ তিনি ছিলেন একজন সত্যিকারের কিংবদন্তি ও তাঁর উত্তরসূরিদের জন্য একটি নির্দেশিকা শক্তি ৷ আমি তাঁর আত্মার শান্তি কামনা করি ৷'
