Kolkata:A group of students has organised a special screening of the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony at Jadavpur University (JU) campus.

The move, however, has faced stiff opposition from Jadavpur University Teachers' Association (JUTA), which has written a letter to the registrar saying it is against the secular outlook of the varsity. JU officials held a meeting to decide on whether to allow the special screening or not.

With less than 24 hours for the consecration, the entire country has decked up for the occasion. Special arrangements have been made in various parts of Kolkata by the BJP to show the live streaming of the ceremony.

The screening has been scheduled at Gandhi Bhavan of the university from 12:30 pm onwards on Monday. A poster in this regard has been put up in the university campus. The poster has mentioned that a group of JU students is the organiser of the screening.

Sabyasachi Saha, a student of social science, said, "Considering the tragic incident that happened in JU recently we mentioned just students of JU as organisers in the poster. Outsiders too can come to see the event. However, if they fail to behave properly then action will be taken against them immediately."

Sabyasachi said students approached the Dean of Students Rajat Roy for holding the special screening of Ram Lalla's consecration ceremony and they were allowed but were asked to ensure there is no disruption. However, Roy claimed that he has no right to give such permission.

Meanwhile JUTA has written a letter to the registrar opposing the special screening. The letter stated, "An initiative has been taken on the campus to do something that is not in tune with the tradition of our university. JU was established on the ideals of patriotism and has been carrying the ideals of secularism since its inception. We do not want any such incident that may disturb peace on campus."
