"We received a tour where we saw a new room. Large rooms that were conditioned to receive potentially hundreds of children. And right now we're seeing that they have 225 more children, potentially to expand to even 750 more. We saw rows of bunk beds, all together there were 144 beds in one big room."

STORYLINE:
US officials and managers of a detention facility for teenage migrants have offered a glimpse of its current expansion, showing a new section where nearly 150 children sleep in rows of bunk beds in a large windowless room.
The company that runs the temporary facility in Homestead has hired 230 new employees and received 225 more children since December, when the US Department of Health and Human and Services announced the expansion.
The agency's spokesman Mark Weber said Wednesday none of the children were transferred from a controversial facility that shut down in January in Tornillo, Texas.
The average time minors spend in the facility has more than doubled, creating a backlog and requiring the additional beds.
The Homestead facility has 1,575 children and after the expansion can now house up to 2,350.
