नई दिल्ली : ऑल असम स्टूडेंट्स यूनियन (आसू) ने संशोधित नागरिकता कानून (सीएए) को लेकर असम में अपना आंदोलन जारी रखने का फैसला लिया है. सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने नागरिकता कानून की संवैधानिक वैधता को चुनौती देने संबंधी याचिकाओं पर सुनवाई के लिए पांच सदस्यीय संविधान पीठ के गठन की बात की है. कोर्ट के फैसले के बाद ही आसू का यह बयान सामने आया है.

इस संबंध में आसू के मुख्य सलाहकार समुज्जल भट्टाचार्य से ईटीवी भारत ने खास बातचीत की. उन्होंने कहा, 'सीएए के खिलाफ हम अपना आंदोलन जारी रखेंगे. मामले को देखने के लिए संविधान पीठ के गठन के उच्चतम न्यायालय के फैसले का हम स्वागत करते हैं.'

उन्होंने आगे कहा, 'असम में लोग सीएए को कभी भी स्वीकार नहीं करेंगे. यह अधिनियम हमारे अपने लोगों के लिए एक खतरा है. हमारे छात्र सीएए के आंदोलन को बरकरार रखेंगे और इस अधिनियम को वापस लेने की अपनी लड़ाई भी जारी रखेंगे.'

गौरतलब है कि चीफ जस्टिस एसए बोबडे की अध्यक्षता वाली तीन सदस्यीय बेंच सीएए को चुनौती देने वाली 144 याचिकाओं पर सुनवाई कर रही थी.

कोर्ट ने यह भी कहा कि असम और त्रिपुरा के मामलों को अन्य राज्यों से अलग निबटाया जाएगा. अदालत ने कहा कि इन दोनों राज्यों में सीएए के साथ समस्या देश के बाकी हिस्सों से अलग है.

Intro:New Delhi: The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has decided to continue its agitation in Assam protesting the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) evenas the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday proposed to setup a larger five-Judge Constitution Bench to look into the matter.

Body:"We will continue our movement against CAA. We welcome the proposal of the Hon'ble Supreme Court for setting up up Govt member Constituion Bench to look into the matter," said AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya to ETV Bharat.

He said that people in Assam will never accept CAA. "This Act is a threat to our own people...our students will continue agitation against CAA but at the same time they will continue their fight demanding withdrawal of the Act," said Bhattacharya.

A three member bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde was hearing a batch of 144 please challenging the validity of CAA. The bench also comprising Justice S Abdul Nazeer and Sanjiv Khanna also gave 4 weeks time to the central government to file its reply over the matter.

The court also said that cases of Assam and Tripura will be dealt separately. The court observed that the problem with CAA in these two states are different from the rest of the country.

Both Assam and Tripura had earlier witnessed anti-foreigners movement.

The petitioner in the case challenges the constitutional validity of CAA which seeks to grant citizenship to migrants belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Christian, Jain and Parsi who come from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan on or before December 31, 2014.

President Ram Nath Kovind on December 12 last year have his assent to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2029, turning it into an Act.

Conclusion:Since then entire northeast was witnessing agitation. Student bodies as well as political parties have been vehemently opposing the Act.

"We will never accept this Act. This Act goes against us. The agitation will continue untill and unless Government withdraw the Act," said Arun Jyoti Moran, president of All Moran Student Union in Assam.

The student bodies said that this Act goes against the basic structure of the historic Assam Accord which was signed in 1985 ending a seven years long anti-foreigners movement.

As per Assam Accord, March 25, 1971 was the dateline to grant citizenship to the people who came from Bangladesh.

Congress Legislative Party leader in Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia said, "Congress will keep opposing the anti-religious Act. The Act goes against the basis structure of the Indian Constitution by giving citizenship on the basis of religion."
