According to doctors and experts, regular exercise improves bone and muscle health, as well as provides relief in body pains, provided that the exercises are done in a proper manner. However, many times, people regardless of pain or any other injury, continue to exercise, even in their old age, without consulting a doctor or specialist. This leads to worsening of the condition and can be even more troublesome.
Dr. Shweta Bhatnagar, physiotherapist at Sankalp Physiotherapy Clinic, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, said that in case of pain in any part of the body, the priority should be given to knowing the cause of pain. Based on this, therapy or exercises can be recommended. During the sessions, complete care is taken and the site of pain is monitored to understand if they are experiencing pain due to a particular reason, in a particular position, etc. But one needs to remember that unknowingly performing exercises and ignoring the problems will only make the condition adverse.
In case of leg pain, which is one of the most common sites of pain, one needs to be more cautious while exercising. Because exercising in such a condition can pressurize the legs more, which can also worsen the pain. Also, in case of an ongoing leg pain treatment or any other serious problem, exercises must be done as per the doctor’s advice only. Here are a few exercises that must be avoided in the case of leg pain.
Toe Touch Crossover
In this exercise, a person is supposed to bend and touch the opposite feet with their hands. The toe touch crossover is considered very beneficial for the back, legs and arms. However, this exercise must be avoided not only in case of leg pain but in back pain as well. While performing this exercise, if a person experiences more pressure on the back, waist or legs, the problem can worsen.
Crunches
Crunches are considered a great full-body exercise, especially for hands and back. But, if you have leg pain, it is better to avoid this exercise, because it puts a lot of pressure on the lower back and legs.
Bar Squats
Bar squats are known to make the muscles and bones strong. But, this exercise puts a lot of pressure on the lower back, hips, knees and feet. Doing it when one is already having pain, can aggravate the condition and make it more painful. Even if you are experiencing pain in the lower back, this exercise must be avoided.
Double Leg Lift
People suffering from pain in the legs and complaining of pain in the lower back as well, should not perform this exercise without doctor's guidance, because this exercise can build up more pressure in these two regions and make the pre-existing condition worse.
