Kolkata: A woman from Kolkata who delivered a baby on Monday, tested positive for COVID-19 following which she was shifted to COVID-19 designated, M R Bangur hospital on Thursday, an official said.
The woman was admitted to the NRS hospital on April 12; when she was taken to the labour room, she exhibited some symptoms of cough. Hence, a throat swab was taken, the result of which came positive on Wednesday.
According to hospital sources, the woman was in the labour room for around three hours and six other pregnant women came in contact during that time. All of them have been kept in isolation and swab samples have been sent for testing.
“We have got involved to find out persons who came in contact with her. The doctors, nurses and other staff who were in close proximity have also been identified and a decision to send them to quarantine will soon be taken,” said a senior official of the hospital.

The labour room and the gynaecological ward of the NRS Hospital have been shut down temporarily for conducting disinfection procedures and all patients have been relocated. Meanwhile, both mother and child have been shifted to M R Bangur Hospital, which is a designated COVID-19 medical facility.
On the other hand, three other patients kept in isolation at the NRS Hospital developed signs of COVID-19 and were also shifted to M R Bangur Hospital for further treatment.
