Kolkata (West Bengal): A Mizo woman and her son were nabbed with cash worth of US Dollar 1,38,700 from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) in West Bengal Jalpaiguri district, police said on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the custom officials sleuths raided a general compartment of the Kanchanjunga Express when it reached at the New Jalpaiguri station on Monday.
Police have seized the cash amount recovered from the alleged's possession.
"Initial probe revealed that the two are involved in smuggling gold from Myanmar to Kolkata. It appears that they were returning after selling smuggled gold in Kolkata and getting the money," the customs official said.
After reaching in Mizoram, they are supposed to send the money to Myanmar, he said by adding that the two are being under the police surveillance.
