Kolkata: A massive fire completely gutted a puja pandal, one of the most popular Durga Pujas in West Bengal's Salt Lake on Wednesday morning.

As per reports, the fire broke out around 6.20 am at FD Block in Salt Lake.

However, no one was injured, but the pandal was totally gutted in the fire.

Two fire tenders reached the spot to douse the fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose, who rushed to the site, said it is difficult to state the cause of the fire without an inquiry.

"I have ordered an inquiry into the fire. Forensic tests will also be done," he said.

One of the Puja organisers said that all government guidelines have been followed and prior permission of the fire department was also obtained.

Earlier on October 17, two persons, including a 12-year-old boy, were killed in a fire that broke out in a five-storeyed residential building at Ganesh Chandra Avenue in Kolkata.

At least 25 fire tenders and a hydraulic ladder were deployed to rescue those trapped inside the building and to douse the blaze, the officials said.

The incident took place in the northern part of the city.
