BJP targets Mamata over Jahan's attending 'Hanuman Chalisa' event

Speaking to ETV Bharat, BJP West Bengal State President Rahul Sinha accused Mamata Banerjee for creating differences between the two communities. He said: "Men or women both have full freedom to attend any event. Attending a 'Hanuman Chalisa Path' would not change her religion. During Roza and Eid, Hindus join the celebration and this won't change their religion. We don't throw them out of the community."

"Government must provide security to Jahan. We will ask the government to take action against the house owner and Maulanas who had threatened her. If it meets with inaction, we will come out on the roads," he further added.

Earlier on June 16, Jahan, in a complaint filed with the police, had said that she was attacked for attending the BJP's 'Hanuman Chalisa Path' in Howrah's AC market.

Jahan had alleged that she was accosted by the people of her community when she returned to her home after attending the event.

Jahan, who was divorced by her husband over the phone from Dubai in 2014 by uttering 'talaq' thrice, was one of the petitioners in the triple talaq case.
