Malda: Three illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were arrested in early hours of Sunday near the Indo-Bangla border in West Bengal's Malda district while trying to crossover to India, officials said.
"Bangladesh nationals entered the country for seeking jobs here," they said.
The infiltrators are residents of Rajshahi and Chapai Nawabganj districts of the neighbouring country, an official said.
"Three Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at Kaliachak area by Border Security Force personnel," the official said.
They have been handed over to Baishnabnagar police station for further legal action, official sources said.
In a separate operation by a team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), West Bengal, two drug peddlers were arrested from Kaliachak area and 1 kg of brown sugar was seized from their possession, police said.
The value of the contraband is estimated to be around Rs 15 lakh.
