UP govt releases new population policy for 2021-2030

Through the proposed policy for 2021-2030, efforts will be made to increase the accessibility of contraceptive measures issued under the family planning program and to provide proper arrangements for safe abortion.

Uttar Pradesh government releases new population policy

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday released the Uttar Pradesh Population Policy 2021-2030 on the occasion of World Population Day at his residence. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that bringing the bill is necessary to control and stabilize the population to promote sustainable development with more equitable distribution. He also underlined the need or creating awareness among the people on this issue. In the new Population Policy, a target has been set to bring the birth rate to 2.1 per thousand population by 2026 and to 1.9 by 2030.

Through the new population policy, efforts will also be made to bring stability to the population by providing solutions to the problem of impotence/infertility, reducing the neonatal mortality rate, maternal mortality rate, through improved health facilities. In addition to this, the policy also aims to make comprehensive arrangements for the care of the elderly, apart from better management of nutrition, education and health of adolescents aged 11 to 19 years.

Earlier on Thursday, Chief Minister had said that poverty and illiteracy are major factors for population expansion because of which there is also a lack of awareness about the population in the community as well. The CM also gave instructions to set up health clubs in schools with the awareness efforts for population stabilization, as well as a system for digital tracking of infants, adolescents, and elderly people in line with the spirit of the Digital Health Mission.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated 11 BSL-2 RTPCR labs in 11 districts of Amethi, Aureya, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Mau, Mahoba, Kasganj, Deoria, Kushinagar, Sonbhadra and Siddharthnagar. He also distributed, 'Shagun Kits' to encourage the means of family planning among newly married people. Medical Health and Family Welfare Minister Jai Pratap Singh and Medical Education Minister Suresh Khanna, Minister of State for Medical Health and Family Welfare Atul Garg were present in the programme.

According to the 2011 census, the population of Uttar Pradesh was around 20 crores which is estimated to be around 24 crores at present.
