Agra (Uttar Pradesh): The panchayat of a village under the Khandauli police station limits spelt out a punishment of ten 'shoe slaps' to a man for allegedly sexually harassing a married woman in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district.
According to reports, though the incident had been reported to the police, there was no action taken, following which the matter reached the village panchayat.
The victim's husband alleged that a youth from the neighbourhood barged into their home and sexually harassed his wife, while he was away for work.
The accused then physically assaulted the victim when she resisted, he added.

When the couple went to the house of the accused, his family members beat them up, the husband of the victim further claimed.
The following day, the couple approached the Khandauli police, following which cops reached the village, but did not investigate the matter, the husband alleged.
The victim claimed that the accused took advantage of the police action and called for a panchayat.
The panches then ordered a punishment of ten 'shoe slaps' for the accused - five each from the victim and her husband. The panchayat also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the accused, following which he was shunted out of the village by his family.
Meanwhile, the village head has claimed that he was called to the panchayat, but he chose not to attend it.
