Sakshi told the media that she was impressed with the work culture in the Samajwadi Party and its popularity among the youth. She said that she has sought an appointment with SP president Akhilesh Yadav.

"The kind of development that took place during Akhilesh's regime was unparalleled. It has given a new identity to UP. I have been impressed enough by this to want to join SP," she said.

Questioned whether she plans to contest elections, Sakshi said that for now, she only wanted to do social work.

"I have not thought about fighting elections. I just want to join the party and work as a social worker," she said.

Sakshi further said that she was first inspired by her father's work, but got no response from him when she expressed her desire about joining politics.

"From the very beginning, I used to observe my father's work, the way he used to solve people's problems. I always wanted to work like him, but got no response when I expressed my desire," she said.

When Sakshi had eloped with Ajitesh last year in July, she had uploaded a video on the social media claiming that she faced a threat to her life from her family.

The couple later appeared on news channels with proof of their marriage and sought protection.
