Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): A local court in Lucknow on Tuesday directed the police to register an FIR against former Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board chairman Wasim Rizvi on charges of raping his driver's wife for five long years. The order was passed by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ambareesh Kumar Srivastava on an application moved by the victim under Section 156(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The court has also summoned a copy of the FIR in court within three days.
In her application to the court, the victim stated that Rizvi had raped her several times and also took her objectionable photographs, in addition to threatening to upload them on social media if she did not keep mum. The victim revealed in her application that Rizvi raped her after sending her husband out on work. The woman said she maintained silence -- she did not even confide the issue with her husband -- as she feared for her husband's life and due to social stigma. It was only when she couldn't bear it anymore did she reveal her ordeal to her husband, on June 11. Considering Rizvi's alleged act as a cognisable offence, the court directed the police to register an FIR under relevant sections.

Riyaz Ahmad, the victim's counsel, said Rizvi used to barge in to his driver's house in the latter's absence, rape his wife and record the act on an electronic gadget. He allegedly took sexual advantage of her for five years threatening that he would upload these videos on social media if she did not 'co-operate' with him.
