Joginder Singh passed away in 1988, but his legacy is still strong in Bareilly. He holds a Guinness world record for loosing elections for 308 times.

Bareilly: A man who once lived in Bareilly has left behing the legacy which is unique in its being. Joginder Singh alias 'Dharti pakad' owns a Guinness world record for 'highest numbers of elections lost'.

Also known as Kaka, Singh owned a garment shop in the bada bazaar area of Bareilly.

From Member of parliament elections to Presidential election, Dharti pakad had contested 308 elections in his lifetime and loosing every single one of them. Inspite of tasting failure he never fell short of courage to fight again. His 'never say never' attitude earned him the name 'Dharti pakad" which means headstrong.

"Even upon loosing would distribute sweets to people," Kaka's grandson Jaswinder Singh said while talking to ETV Bharat.

He also said that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had also offered him a ticket to contest from the Congress party, but he had refused.

Jaswinder Singh said that his grandfather never supported any party. He believed that the elections should be fought independently.

"Kaka once filed nomination against former President Shankar Dayal Sharma and Vice President K R Narayan. That was the only time he broke his rule of fighting independent. He died in 1988, but his memory is still alive in our lives," Jaswinder said.

With elections coming up, people of Bareilly are remembering Kaka Joginder Singh once again.
