Hospital report doesn't confirm Hathras victim was raped: Police

Hathras SP Vikrant Vir on the Aligarh medical report

Hathras (Uttar Pradesh): The medical report of the Hathras victim from Aligarh hospital does not confirm rape, the police said on Thursday.

Hathras SP Vikrant Vir revealed that the medical report does not confirm rape, and hence the doctors are currently awaiting the forensic report.

"Medical report from Aligarh hospital mentions injuries but does not confirm forced sexual intercourse. They are waiting for the report of the Forensics. As of now, doctors say that they are not confirming rape, and can give a firm opinion only when they get the FSL report," he said.

"SIT (Special Investigation Team) came to the district yesterday. They had visited the village and met the victim's family. They had even inspected the crime spot. The team is still in the village, meeting the family and carrying out further investigation," he added.

The woman, who was allegedly gang-raped in a village in Hathras district two weeks ago, died of her grievous injuries at the Delhi hospital on September 29, prompting outrage, protests and calls for justice.

On the same evening, protests had broken out in several places in Aligarh and Hathras following reports of the death of the gang-rape victim. Hundreds of protestors took out a procession in Hathras demanding death penalty for the culprits.

The woman was cremated in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras in the early hours of the following day, with her family members alleging the local police forced them to conduct her last rites in the dead of the night.
