Bareilly: A woman sub-inspector (SI) Reena Kumari was brutally killed in a transit hostel adjacent to the Police Lines in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly.
On Tuesday night, the 42-year-old SI was found dead with her head smashed. Originally hailing from Amroha, the SI was posted in the intelligence unit and was living alone at the hostel after sending her son to Delhi for studies two days ago, police said.
Uttar Pradesh police stated that the household belongings were found scattered all over the place and it appears that the assailants also took her mobile phone with them.
The incident came to light when Special Sub-Inspector Manoj Varma, living in the neighbourhood, found her door open. After getting no response for his calls, Varma looked inside only to find the SI lying on the floor with her head severely injured.
The victim was a native of Amroha district and was posted at police lines. She was married to a constable in provincial armed constabulary but got divorced later. She had a 15-year-old boy who studies in Delhi.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rajesh Kumar Pandey said police are investigating the case from all angles.
