Dear Shailendra ji

A place where temple and mosque offer prayer at the same time

At the Meera ji Chowki in Badaun, the sounds of aarti and azaan comes at the same time from temple and a mosque. People from both the religions come and offer their prayers thus making this place an example of communal harmony.

Badaun: There are just a few days left for the Ayodhya verdict. The country is abuzz with anticipation about the outcome of the case. Police and other forces are on alert. The outcome of the case can be anything, but there are some places in the country which are perfect examples of communal harmony. Meera ji Chowki is at the centre of Badaun and a mix of religious communities live here. At the main crossing of the area there is a Hanuman temple and a mosque adjacent to each other. Distinguished with a wall in between the temple is visited by Hindu devotees whereas the mosque sees muslims offering their daily prayers.

Both the communities have been doing this for years. The chants of prayers and sound of azaan can be heard here at the same time. Ashok Rana who stays nearby says that this place is an example of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood. Here at the same time prayers are offered at the temple and azaan is done at the mosque. No one in the locality has ever had any objections to this.

All the people live with a feeling of communal harmony. We all are support to each other in times of need and we intend to set this fine example of India's tradition in the times to come also.

The Imam of the mosque tells that the mosque is many years old. On one hand azaan is done and on the other, prayers are offered in the temple next door and nobody has ever objected to it.

He further says that no matter what is the verdict of the Ayodhya case, we will keep on setting this example of communal harmony and brotherhood.
