Aligarh Muslim University completes 100 years

Vice-Chancellor Tariq Mansoor in an open letter to the AMU community on completion of 100 years of the university noted that on December 1, 1920, the gazette notification for establishing this institution was released by the government.

Aligarh: World-renowned Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday marked the completion of 100 years of its existence.

Illuminated and decked up, the AMU administration conducted celebrations online with a release of a coffee table book depicting the pictorial history of the university.

Vice-Chancellor Tariq Mansoor in an open letter to the AMU community on completion of 100 years of the university noted that on December 1, 1920, the gazette notification for establishing this institution was released by the government.

The VC added that the university had earlier planned a month-long celebration but it could not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, to celebrate their alma matter's centenary AMU's Old Boys' alumni association met up and held discussions.

"I came to the university in 1962 to study," said Razaullah Khan, a senior Old Boy retired professor at AMU.

He added, "The old things here are just to read in history, but the journey of the last fifty years that I lived in Aligarh, then and now, there is a big difference. The quality of teaching here has changed, the university is in the top five in the field of education and the infrastructure has changed a lot in the last fifty years."

The university was founded by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
