Uttar Pradesh: 5 killed, over a dozen hurt after bus carrying wedding guests overturns

Police said the bus, which was running at a high speed lost control on Bhind-Urai highway and met with the accident.

Jalaun: Five people died on the spot and more than 12 people were seriously injured after a bus carrying wedding-goers overturned near Gopalpura under the Madhaugarh police station area of Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district on Saturday night, police said.

Police said the bus, which was running at a high speed lost control on Bhind-Urai highway and met with the accident. Superintendent of Police Iraj Raja, who confirmed the incident, said there were 40 people in the bus, out of which, five people have died while more than 12 people were injured after a bus, which was carrying wedding guests and running with high speed lost control and collided with a tree.

He further stated that the injured had been sent to the hospital for immediate treatment. The impact of accident was so severe that the roof of the bus was completely damaged. The Madhaugarh police, with the help of people, admitted the injured to the Government Medical College at Orai.

Narrating the incident, Umesh Kumar, who was one of the passengers, said that all those people are residents of Mawai of Render police station area. The accident took place at around 2 pm on Saturday when passengers were going to Mahoi village which falls under the Rendhar police station area after returning from the wedding ceremony in Dhuta Umri. All 40, people on the bus, were fast asleep when suddenly the bus lost its balance to avoid a big vehicle coming from the opposite direction near Gopalpura bridge. The driver died on the spot.
