Kothagudem (Telangana): Controversy surrounded the death of a 20-year-old man, who allegedly committed suicide after being summoned by the Ashwaraopeta police station in an ATM theft case.
Kalyan was a major witness in the case, was called by the police several times and was tortured badly during interrogation.
According to family members, Kalyan had been summoned to the police station at least twice in the last 3-4 days for his alleged involvement in a theft case.
Five days back, Kalyan was asked to come to the police station once again where he was allegedly beaten up by the police ‘as part of interrogation’ and was let off. Later, the witness committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan.
The family members took Kalyan's body to the police station and staged protests demanding action against the police personnel responsible for the death.
