Assault on woman forest officer can't be tolerated: Javadekar

The attack on the woman forest official in Telangana was deeply condemned in the Rajya Sabha by the Union Minister of Environment Prakash Javadekar. He made it clear that such incidents cannot be tolerated.

New Delhi: After a woman forest official got assaulted in Telangana, the Union Minister of Environment, Prakash Javadekar said that the assault on the forest officers will not be tolerated, on Monday.

While speaking in Rajya Sabha, the Union Minister said that the government has taken the issue very seriously. "We are taking it very seriously because it cannot be tolerated. We as regulators will do whatever is possible," he added. The woman forest officer also demanded strict action against the accused stating that "We are public servants, we were doing our duty. Those who are against them have either been attacked or transferred. They should be suspended. The party should take action against the MLA. This attack wasn't an attack on me, it is an attack on the uniform. There should be action against them,"Telangana Forest Officers were attacked by a gang of 30 people led by the brother of TRS Lawmaker Koneru, Konaru Krishna. The Telangana police arrested Krishna, on Sunday. The video of the attack went viral on social media. The woman official, C Anitha had gone to Sarasala village with few other officials to plant saplings where she was attacked. Krishna along with his supporters attacked the forest department officials with Bamboo sticks. According to the police, both Koneru Konappa as well as Krishna Rao have a long history of assaulting government officials.
