Salem: IAS officer Rohini Bhajibhakare and the first woman collector of Salem district of Tamil Nadu shed a few tears as she delivered last speech before her transfer from the district.
During the District Farmers' Meet on Friday, Rohini delivered a speech thanking people, especially the farmers, she served during her tenure.
Belonging from an agriculturalist family from Solapur district in Maharashtra, Rohini became the first woman collector of Salem district in Tamil Nadu. The district has had 170 collectors from 1790, but not a single woman.
The IAS officer said that she always wants to serve the farmers.
"Since I belong from a farmers' family, I will always be concerned with farmers," an emotional Rohini said.
"Today, I attended this meeting because I wanted to interact with farmers who constantly showed affection towards me during my tenure," she added, while holding back her tears.
The officer was also gifted a shawl by the farmers during the meeting.
"I have been gifted shawls on many occasions, but today it moved me to tears," she said.
