Chennai: Hours after getting married, a newly-wed man allegedly murdered his wife during an altercation over a personal issue and later, hanged himself to death on Wednesday at Minjur near Chennai.
The deceased were identified as Neethivasan, 24, and his wife Sandhya, 20.
As per reports, the 24-year-old man bashed his wife to death with a crowbar, following a quarrel between the two on their first night. Although, as soon as, the family members heard the couple quarrelling inside the room, they requested them to open the door, but none of them responded.
Minutes after the family members managed to open the door, they found the bride lying unconscious and lifeless on the floor, with profuse bleeding from the head.
Neethivasan, who fled from the spot soon after the incident, was found hanging from a tree near his house.
According to police, Kattur police shifted the body of the couple to Ponneri GH for postmortem and the reason behind the murder and subsequent suicide is yet to be ascertained.
The couple was married in a low key affair in front of a dozen relatives due to the COVID-19 lockdown regulations.
