Coimbatore: As Coimbatore continues to report more Covid cases than worst-hit Chennai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin decided to take stock of the preparedness and disease control measures in the district.
With regards to the Black Fungus, the state has also constituted a high-level team to study the effects of Mucormycosis.
On Thursday, as many as 2,779 people were affected in Coimbatore, while the infected numbers stood at 4,734 which remains the highest in the state.
Tiruppur topped the chart in the third spot with 2,074 patients. For two consecutive days, Coimbatore had been surpassing the case load in Chennai.

On Thursday, Stalin held a meeting with officials in some of the worst affected districts including Erode, Tiruppur and Salem where either cases or deaths were on the rise.
Stalin asked the District Collectors to tighten vigil and control the spread by breaking the chain. This he would put to review during his Sunday visit to Coimbatore.
Cases in Chennai had peaked by passing 6,000 cases per day before plateauing at around 4,000 and it further dipped in the past two days.
Stalin had already stated that the stringent lockdown which is now in place in Tamil Nadu has helped Chennai control the spread. He has also indicated that the lockdown will be extended if need be.
On Saturday, he would chair a meeting in this regard where the high-level team would deliberate the effect of the lockdown and its extension.

Tamil Nadu has so far reported 19 lakh infections of which nearly 5 lakhs are in Chennai.
The burden on Chennai's hospital has visibly reduced as online bed requests and oxygen support are minimal.
According to the government sources the success of the Chennai model in controlling the spread will be emulated in Coimbatore and the rest of the state wherever the cases are surging.
Meanwhile, the Task Force Committee constituted with experts will advise the government on issues related to mucormycosis, its prevention, treatment and also update the government with the latest research on the subject as well.
