Chennai:The city witnessed intense thunderstorms and heavy rainfall on Thursday causing waterlogging in several parts of the city.The city recorded an average rainfall of 97.27 mm, largest amount of rainfall received in October since 2014. Areas including Vyasarpadi, Egmore, Palavakkam, Parrys, Kilpauk, MMDA Colony, Thiruvanmiyur witnessed waterlogging.
While Nungambakkam registered nearly 13 cm of rain till 8.30 am on Thursday, weather stations in Anna University (13.4 cm), Ennore (8 cm), Red Hills (13 cm), Satyabama University (6 cm) and Meenambakkam (5 cm) recorded moderate to heavy rainfall.
Dr S Balachandran, Deputy Director General of Regional Meteorological Centre , Chennai, said that rain would continue in the city and neighbouring areas for next few days. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Tenkasi, Ranipet, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli districts would receive heavy rain.
