Bikaner: After 110 deaths of the newborns at Kota's JK Lone Hospital, reports suggest that a total number of 658 deaths were recorded in Bikaner alone last year.
In December alone, 162 infant deaths were reported raising questions over the health care system in Rajasthan.
In 2019, 17,234 children were born out of which 5,019 children were admitted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
In 2018, infants' deaths were recorded at 1,678 out of the 32,772 admitted in the hospitals.
In 2017, numbers suggest that out of the 29,100 born, 1,648 infants were dead.
In an average of three years, 140 infant deaths have been reported every month.
After the various reports on infants' deaths pouring in from across the state, most state-run hospitals have come under the radar of the government.
The government had asked hospitals for numbers on child mortality rate, following which the data mentioned above was revealed.
