Alwar (Rajasthan): After a two-month-long wait, notorious gangster Papala Gujjar's 'friend', Jia, was released from the Central Jail in Alwar on Thursday.
Soon after her release, Jia's family members said they had no information about her connection with Gujjar.
A teary-eyed Jia said she was in no position to talk to anybody at that moment.
"Jia had met Gujjar four to five times. She was a gym trainer and that is how she came in contact with him. He introduced himself to her as Mann Singh. He had an Aadhaar card by the name of Mann Singh aka Uday Singh. Jia did not help him in forging the Aadhaar card," Jia's lawyer Ankit Goel said.
"The court granted bail to Jia on the basis that a person living with the offender does not become a criminal. Also, Jia gave information about many such things related to Gujjar, which was completely different from the story narrated by the police," he said.
"She did not hide anything related to her life with Gujjar. But, he seemed to have hidden a lot of secrets from her. During her stay in the Alwar jail, she came to know about Gujjar through newspapers," Goel added.
"Jia had informed the authorities concerned that Gujjar had been living in Kolhapur. His way of living there was completely different from what is being said in the news. He prayed devotionally throughout the day, went to his gym and ate vegetarian food. He had a single phone number through which he would contact her," Goel said.
Jia said she met Gujjar on December 13, 2020, and was 'caught' in his company on January 28. She was at Gujjar's rented house that day.
The police had arrived at around 12 am and latched on the door from outside the room in which they were staying. Later, both were arrested. Till then, she did not know what was happening. For the first time, she learnt from the police that Gujjar Papala was a dangerous, wanted criminal. She had heard his real name for the first time. She only knew him as Mann," Goel explained.
According to sources, the prison administration gave her books to read. Though her initial days in jail were difficult, she later spent her time doing yoga and training people.
Jia said, henceforth, she will take decisions after consulting her family.
