Jaipur: Data analyst and IT specialist, Atal Khandelwal who worked under World Health Organisation for 12 years on Sunday said that the coronavirus-like pandemic hits globe every 100 years and we should be vigilant about it from the start.

While talking to ETV Bharat he explained that the first challenge for all of us is to understand, how long can coronavirus live on different surfaces and in the air.

"The Black Death, also known as the Pestilence and the Plague, was the most fatal pandemic recorded in human history, resulting in the deaths of up to 75–200 million people in Eurasia and North Africa, peaking in Europe from 1347 to 1351. It is unfortunate to know, some say it was man-made just like coronavirus," Atal said.

He also added that for the last 300 years, the world has faced three different types of the pandemic which has not only affected humans but the entire ecosystem as well.

In case of coronavirus, India is likely to get affected by it to a great extent but even then the numbers might be very less than other countries since Indians take extra care to boost up their immunity system.

Khandelwal further opines that this COVID-19 pandemic can only be eradicated by three means. "The first option is that we find an exact vaccine for it. The next option to defeat the virus is to stay back at home and maintain social distancing. Once 60 to 70 per cent of the population gets affected by it, the disease will automatically disappear as antibodies to fight this virus would be easily available," he said.
