Punjab police arrests another accused in Kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian murder case

Jalandhar police has arrested Surjanjit Singh Chatha accused in the murder case of Punjab's international Kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian.

Jalandhar: Jalandhar police has arrested Surjanjit Singh Chatha, the accused in the murder case of Punjab's international Kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian, sources said on Thursday. While police did not officially confirm the arrest, sources said that the accused Surjanjit Singh Chatha was arrested on Wednesday night in the case and taken into custody.

A video of the arrest is going viral on social media. In the video, the cops are seen arresting Chattha and taking him away. Ambian was shot dead by unidentified attackers during a kabaddi match at Malian village of Jalandhar on Mar. 14 last year. Following the murder, Sandeep's wife Rupinder Kaur had taken to social media around six months ago appealing police to arrest the assailants in the case.

Ambian's wife Rupinder Kaur had alleged that police had failed to nab the culprits in the case. Rupinder Kaur said that the accused were hiding in Kartar Palace in Jalandhar while police were acting as mute spectators. Kaur said she had approached the concerned SSP and told him that the accused in the murder case was sitting in Kartar Palace of Jalandhar.

It can be recalled that Punjab Police had in June last year arrested five people, including an ex-serviceman in connection with the murder of Sandeep Nangal Ambian. The accused were identified as Harwinder Singh alias Fauji of Bulandshahr and Rajwinder Singh of Pilibhit, both from Uttar Pradesh, Vikas Malhe of Gurgaon in Haryana, Sachin Dhaulia of Alwar, Rajasthan, and Manjot Kaur of Sangrur. Police also recovered seven pistols – including five foreign-made .30 bore pistols and two .315 country-made pistols – and three vehicles (Mahindra XUV, Toyota Etios and Hyundai Verna) from the possession of the accused.
