Sambalpur: A modern Ramayana was scripted in Odisha's Huma village when the villagers built a 'sethu' (bridge) with country boats to rescue around 30 monkeys stranded in a river island.
The famous temple of Goddess “Kali” of Huma is located in the middle of the Mahanadi river near Bakra Temple resembling an island.
These monkeys were stranded in the island after the water level rose tremendously following incessant rains.
The villagers planned to rescue the monkeys after they spotted them in a helpless condition. They placed two country boats back to back to prepare a make shift bridge and rescued the marooned animals to safety.
