Nabarangpur (Odisha): In a humanitarian gesture, an Odisha MLA, Manohar Randhari has set an example by carrying a pregnant woman on a cot for 6 km to make her reach the hospital in Papadahandi area of Odisha's Nabarangpur district.
According to sources, the woman, Jema Behera of Kusumikhunti village under Maidalpur panchayat, complained of labour pain this morning.
Following this, the family members of the woman contacted the emergency service. However, the emergency vehicle driver expressed his inability to reach the pick-up point due to lack of proper road.
The legislator had gone to the remote village after coming to know about the women’s predicament. Randhari reached the village immediately and made a cot with the help of locals.
Later, the Legislator took the woman to the Primary Health Centre in Maidalpur in his own vehicle.
The pregnant woman was kept on observation in the hospital when the last reports came in. Meanwhile, the MLA's 'heart-winning' effort has been praised by many, sources added.
