Malkangiri (Odisha): The police have arrested one Maoist and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, after an exchange of fire between security forces and Maoists during a combing operation near Kumikhari and Badli Pahad reserve forest area under Boipariguda Police limits on the Koraput-Malkangiri border in Odisha.
"A joint operation was conducted by the Odisha and Andhra police, after which the Maoists opened fire at the security forces injuring one platoon commander," informed Malkangiri SP Prahalad Sahai Meena.
"During the operation, the police nabbed one Maoist, while the other one escaped," SP added.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of SOG, District Voluntary Force of the Odisha Police and BSF conducted a raid in the Kumikhari and Badli Pahad reserve forest area on the Koraput-Malkangiri border. Security forces have seized arms, ammunition, medicines, and Maoist literature from the spot.

Earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik appealed to the Maoists to shun violence and join the mainstream society.
