Kalahandi (Odisha): A woman Block Development Officer (BDO) in Odisha’s Kalahandi district set an example by carrying a patient on a cot for 2 km and later took her to hospital in an ambulance on Thursday.
According to sources, Madanpur-Rampur block BDO Ruman Jafree rushed to Kaupadar village of the district after some residents of the village informed her about a woman's critical health condition.
The victim has suffered critical burn injuries due to a fire mishap. Earlier she was admitted to a nearby PHC. Later, she was shifted to Madanpur-Rampur CHC as her health condition deteriorated, sources said.
As the patient's health condition started to worsen, her family members contacted the 108 ambulance service. However, the ambulance driver expressed his inability to reach the pick-up point due to a non-motorable road.
On being informed, the BDO rose to the occasion and had to travel on foot along with few villagers by carrying her on a cot for 2 km through hilly terrain and made the woman reach near the ambulance.
Later, the BDO took the woman to the Community Health Centre in Madanpur-Rampur in his own vehicle. The critically injured woman was kept on observation in the hospital when the last reports came in, sources added.
