Bunty Sajdeh appears before CBI

The CBI on Thursday questioned Bunty Sajdeh, who is the brother-in-law of Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma and Bollywood actor Sohail Khan. Sajdeh is the CEO of the Cornerstone Sports and Entertainment Pvt Limited, where the late actor's former manager Shruti Modi and Disha Salian used to work.

According to CBI officials, Sajdeh arrived at the DRDO guest house to record his statement. A CBI source said the agency wants to know for how long Shruti Modi and Disha Salian, handled Sushant's account.

The agency will also ask Sajdeh about whether Shruti Modi also handled Sushant's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty's profile. Salian died on June 9, just five days before the death of Sushant on June 14. 

Ace cricketer Rohit Sharma is married to Ritika Sajdeh. Bunty and Ritika are first cousins. His other sister Seema is married to actor and director Sohail Khan, youngest brother of superstar Salman Khan.

The family of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput had registered their protest with the Mumbai Police against recording their statement in Marathi, advocate Vikas Singh, the lawyer of Rajput's father, said on Thursday.

Vikas Singh's comments on the issue come a day after holding a press conference to dispel some rumours regarding the case.

"I believe the Mumbai Police Commissioner has said that no protest was made at that point of time. At that point, we only protested that it should not be in Marathi. We did not know what was written in Marathi as none of the family members hails from Maharashtra," Singh told reporters.

The lawyer had on Wednesday held a press conference to dispel the rumours regarding the case and said that the theory being propounded by a section of the media that Rajput had a life insurance policy and the family will not be given money if he had committed suicide is a canard and Sushant had no life insurance policy.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Thursday welcomed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by former IPS officers in connection with the "unfair, malicious and false media campaign" against the Mumbai Police in the Sushant Singh Rajput's death case.

Stressing that Maharashtra Police and the Mumbai Police have a "reputation" Deshmukh said: "The Maharashtra Police is compared to Scotland Yard Police. The manner in which Mumbai Police was targetted in Sushant Singh Rajput case, I welcome the PIL filed by retired IPS officers."

On August 31, eight former IPS officers moved the Bombay High Court, urging it to stop the "media trial" in the late actor's death case.

HC asks media to exercise restraint

The Bombay High Court said it expects media organisations to exercise restraint while publishing or reporting any details about investigation in the case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death.

A division bench of Justices A A Sayed and S P Tavade said the media should report in such a manner that it does not hamper the investigation.

The court was hearing two petitions which claimed a "media trial" was going on in the case of Rajput's death and sought for it to be stopped.

One of the petitions was filed by eight former IPS officers against the "unfair, malicious and false media campaign" against Mumbai Police.

The petitioners include former director generals of police M N Singh, P S Pasricha, K Subramanyam, D Sivanandan, Sanjeev Dayal and Satish Mathur, former additional DGP K P Raghuvanshi and former Mumbai police commissioner D N Jadhav.

The other petition was filed by filmmaker Nilesh Navlakha and two others who claim to be social activists, seeking direction to media organisations not to sensationalist reportage in the case.

NCB nabs another suspect

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is questioning another person, suspected to be a drug trafficker, in connection with the drugs trafficking case linked to the case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death, officials said on Thursday.

The man whose identity has not been revealed is allegedly linked to Basit Parihar who has been arrested by the federal anti-narcotics agency in this case.

The NCB has arrested two people in this probe till now, the other being Zaid Vilatra (21).

Zaid was produced before a local court by the agency on Thursday that sent him to its custody till September 9.

Indian currency worth Rs 9,55,750 and foreign currency (USD 2,081, 180 British Pounds, 15 dirhams), which the NCB claimed are "proceeds of drug peddling", were recovered from Zaid.

"Zaid disclosed that he runs an eatery in Bandra which was not giving any pecuniary gains since lockdown. He also disclosed that he is into drug peddling, especially bud, through which he used to earn a substantial amount of money," the NCB had said.

Man held for alleged drug trafficking remanded in NCB custody

A Mumbai court on Thursday remanded an alleged contraband dealer, arrested in connection with the drugs trafficking case linked to the case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death, in the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) till September 9.

The accused, Zaid Vilatra (21), was produced before a metropolitan magistrate's court which remanded him in NCB's custody for seven days for further probe in the case.

Rhea's father reaches DRDO guest house for 3rd day

Mumbai: Actress Rhea Chakraborty's father reached the DRDO guest house here on Thursday for questioning by the CBI for the third consecutive day in the case of death of her boyfriend and film star Sushant Singh Rajput, a police official said.

In the last two days, the 28-year-old actress's father Indrajeet Chakraborty was questioned for over 18 hours by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

On Thursday, he reached the DRDO guest house in suburban Kalina, where the probe team is stationed, around 10.30 am in a car escorted by a police vehicle, the official said.

The actress, who was earlier questioned for around 35 hours over four days, and her brother Showik Chakraborty, who was also grilled by the CBI, have not been summoned by the probe agency on Thursday so far.

Rhea Chakraborty and her family members are accused of abetting the suicide of Rajput (34), who was found hanging in his flat in Mumbai's Bandra area on June 14.

After his demise, the Mumbai Police registered a case of accidental death and recorded statements of over 50 people.

The late actor's father subsequently filed a police complaint in Patna, accusing Rhea Chakraborty and her family of abetting his suicide and misappropriating his money.

The Supreme Court last month upheld the transfer of the FIR lodged in Patna to the CBI.On Wednesday, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said it has arrested two alleged contraband dealers in connection with the drugs trafficking case linked to the case of Rajput's death.

The role of Rhea Chakraborty's brother and his purported links with people nabbed by NCB are under the scanner of the agency and he is expected to be summoned for questioning soon, officials said.
