Stay safe, leave rehabilitation to govt, Uddhav consoles flood affected

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray visited flood-affected Talaye village in Mahad on Saturday. He consoled the relatives of the landslide victims and assured them that the government will take care of their rehabilitation.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who visited the flood-ravaged Talaye village in Mahad on Saturday, told relatives of landslide victims to safeguard themselves in the first place from nature's fury. The government will take care of the rehabilitation part. "What you went through is a big misery. So stay safe. Leave the rest to the government. We will rehabilitate you. Help will be given to all," the Chief Minister consoled the relatives of the victims who died in the floods.

The Chief Minister reached the spot after the debris was cleared. As soon as Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray arrived at the spot, locals and administrative officials informed him about the incident. The Chief Minister listened to the locals and tried to reassure them.

Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said that in view of the incidents of landslides, the state government would come up with a plan to permanently shift and relocate people living in hilly areas. A landslide on Thursday evening has claimed at least 37 lives so far in Taliye village of Raigad district. Apart from Taliye village, major landslides have occurred at least at five other places in the state during the torrential rains in the last couple of days. Two more such incidents took place in Raigad district, while three others in Satara district. Five bodies have been recovered so far in a landslide at Ambeghar village in Satara.

Ratnagiri and Raigad districts bore the maximum brunt of the rain fury and resultant floods. The Chief Minister reached Taliye village around 2.15 pm today. Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, Guardian Minister Aditi Tatkare, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Vadettiwar, Transport Minister Anil Parab, Milind Narvekar, MP Sunil Tatkare, MLA Bharat Gogavale, Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte and District Collector Nidhi Chaudhary were present with him.
